The American $1 bill has been the most widely used medium of exchange for many decades. This site is maintained by Crane & Co., the manufacturer of United States currency paper since 1879. It is our hope that we can bring to light the rich history and character of the American $1 bill, its importance to commerce and, in so doing, ensure its lasting place in America’s future.
